With the arrival of spring, both nature and the people of Savo stir to life, and as summer dawns, festivals and lakeside activities start to beckon. Autumn is the perfect time for picking berries and mushrooms, while in winter, nature offers a tranquil backdrop for winter activities.

Spring

In spring, the nature of North Savo stirs to life, and the region’s forests and meadows are filled with flowers and greenness. Spring is an ideal time for birdwatching and hiking on nature trails, as nature awakes from hibernation. The fishing season also starts, and many natural waters, such as Lake Kallavesi in Kuopio, beckon fishers and canoeists to enjoy the spring sunshine.

Winter

The conditions are perfect for winter sports, such as skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing. The ski resorts of Tahko and Kasurila are popular among skiers and snowboarders.
